To build a community of individuals who don’t just share a passion for adventure, but who also share a common goal of finding creative ways to engage in their passion on a daily basis. While some of these people might have lucrative careers in their field of interest, others simply have just found ways to create better work life balance focused on their love for adventure and living an active lifestyle.
You can think of this as an episode of Dirty Jobs, but instead of standing knee deep in cow dung, I’ll be interviewing individuals who have careers focused on their passion for adventure and being active. These
careers paid hobbies range from ski instructors and outdoor retail entrepreneurs to travel bloggers and terrain park designers.
Hey, I’m Dan, the founder of Adventureful. By trade I’m a software engineer, but despite the countless number of hours I spend behind a computer, my career is anything but a standard 9-5 office gig. I’m fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to work 100% remote without having to step foot into a “real office”. Having a location independent job has allowed me to travel the world for over 200 days/year all while doing something that I’ve loved for the past 20 years – programming.
During my time on the road I’ve experienced a wide variety of adventures like skydiving, whitewater rafting, zorbing, snorkeling, backcountry snowboarding and trap shooting. None of these adventures would be possible if it wasn’t for the talented individuals who have dedicated their lives to teaching their craft and hobbies to people like myself. As I’ve spoken with these guides, teachers, business owners and adventure junkies, they’ve all echoed the same phrase, “I can’t believe I get paid for this!“.
Despite the optimistic attitude that these people have towards their careers, I realize they tend to be the exception rather than the rule. For those of you who dread the start of a new work week and feel stuck doing something you don’t love, Adventureful looks to be your inspiration to pursuing something you’re truly passionate about. And for those who don’t quite know what you’re passionate about yet, I hope to introduce you to new opportunities that you never knew existed. Through trial and error you can begin to find what gets you excited to get out of bed every morning.
